To make traditional or Alternative Medicine part of a comprehensive health strategy to combat the main diseases of the population, Senator Claudia Edith Anaya Mota proposed an initiative to reform the General Health Law.
The PRI senator explained that she wants the Ministry of Health to take charge of the promotion, knowledge and development of Alternative Medicine, in addition to its practice under appropriate conditions.
Anaya Mota said that in this way, the authority will intervene, regulate and accompany the population seeking health, and eliminate charlatans and people who deceive the citizenry with their practice.
He stressed that the country’s health system is overstepped; that most people do not have access to public or private medical services. Thus, traditional and alternative medicine is an option for that sector of society.
Traditional and complementary medicine is an important and often underestimated part of health care. That is why, he said, it is necessary to provide an appropriate legal framework for these practices.
It is necessary, said the legislator, that the law be improved according to the situations and needs of the people. From this sovereignty, we must move forward with a reform that safeguards people’s health, so that alternative medicine is part of a comprehensive strategy to combat the main diseases of the population, he reiterated.
The initiative was sent to the United Health and Legislative Studies commissions, second.
